Odisha powerlifters emerge Senior National runners-up

Odisha Powerlifting Association today felicitated the state squad for finishing first runners-up in men`s unequipped category, bagging one gold, two silver and one bronze medals in the Senior National Championship, which was held at Mangalore from August 21 to 26.

Overall, Odisha secured five medals, which included two gold, two silver and one bronze. Host Karnataka emerged champions in the category, while Kerala settled as second runners-up. Odisha achieved another success as Pradeep Kumar Patra was adjudged `Strongman of India` first runner-up, bagging the gold medals in men`s 66kg unequipped category and deadlift equipped category.

In the unequipped category Bhubaneswar lifter Pradip Patra grabbed the gold with total lift of 535 kg. His efforts included 185 kg in squat, 107.5 kg in benchpress and 242.5 kg in deadlift. Sudam Sahu claimed a silver in men`s 59 kg class, lifting 160 kg in squat, 97.5 kg in benchpress and 197.5 kg in deadlift for a total of 455 kg.

Debi Singh, the Strong Woman of Odisha, secured the other silver in 47 kg category with a total lift of 245 kg (squat 80 kg, benchpress 42.5 kg, deadlift 122.5 kg). Tarandeep Singh took the bronze in men`s plus 120 kg with a total lift of 595 kg (squat 230 kg, benchpress 125 kg, deadlift 240 kg).
